## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 3, 2007 THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, A PRIVATE PILOT WAS ACTING AS PILOT IN COMMAND OF N27166, A GRUMMAN TIGER AIRCRAFT. UPON LANDING AT THE ELK RIVER, IDAHO AIRPORT, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE AND CRASHED INTO A BUILDING. THE 1979 GRUMMAN AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO BOTH WINGS AND NOSE GEAR. THERE WERE NO MECHANIC ISSUES WITH N27166 PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE ELK RIVER AIRPORT IS A PRIVATE AIRSTRIP, OWNED BY THE POTLATCH CORPORATION OF LEWISTON, IDAHO. THE RUNWAY IS GRASS, AND WAS REPORTED AS DRY AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX07CA248](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX07CA248), Aug 3, 2007: Grumman American AA5A (N27166), Elk River, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudged landing flare, inadequate bounced landing recovery, and failure to maintain directional control during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
