## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 3, 2007, AT 0930 LOCAL TIME, A LUSCOMBE 8E, SERIAL NUMBER 2013, N45486, REGISTERED TO ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AND PILOTED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ IMPACTED TERRAIN WHILE TURNING LEFT BASE TO RUNWAY 36 AT POLSON, MONTANA (8S1). THE PILOT OPERATED THE AIRCRAFT UNDER 14 CFR PART 91. VMC PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT AND NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED AT LIVINGSTON, MONTANA (LVM). THE PILOT REPORTED THAT WHILE HE TURNED TO BASE HIS AILERON CONTROL JAMMED. HE APPLIED RUDDER AND ADDED POWER TO COMPENSATE BUT ROLL CONTROL WAS NOT REGAINED. HE THEN REDUCED POWER AND CHECKED INSIDE THE COCKPIT FOR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT BE BINDING THE CONTROLS AND FOUND NOTHING. THE AIRCRAFT TURNED TWO FULL TURNS WHEN THE MAIN GEAR CONTACTED THE GROUND, CARTWHEELED AND CAME TO REST INVERTED. THE PILOT, THE SOLE OCCUPANT WAS UNINJURED AND THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. POST CRASH, THE PILOT INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT AND FOUND FULL AILERON CONTROL AND DEFLECTION ON BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT AILERONS WITH NO RESTRICTIONS OR BINDING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX07LA240](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX07LA240), Aug 3, 2007: Luscombe 8E (N45486), Polson, MT, substantial damage. Probable cause: a flight control jam for undetermined reasons.
