## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT JUST CAME OUT OF 100 HR ANNUAL INSPECTION. PREINSPECTION CK LIST SHOWS L/H TANK EMPTY R/H TANK 1/2. FUEL SELECTOR VALVE HANDLE AND POSITION INDICATION COVER WAS REMOVED TO FACILITATE MAINTENANCE. AT TIME OF REMOVAL HANDLE WAS LOCATED SO THAT THE L/H TANK WAS OPEN. WHEN IT WAS REINSTALLED THE HANDLE WAS PUT ON 180 DEGREE OFF AND POINTING TO R/H TANK OPEN. WHEN PILOT PREPARED TO FLY HE TURNED SELECTOR TO THE BOTH POSITION, BUT BECAUSE SELECTOR HANDLE WAS 180 DEGREES OFF, IT ACTUALLY TURNED FUEL OFF.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC07LA077](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC07LA077), Aug 9, 2007: Cessna 185 (N720), Bethel, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The improper [reversed] installation of the fuel selector handle by maintenance personnel.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
