## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE STUDENT PILOT STATED HE WAS IN LEFT TURN FOLLOWING HIS DEPARTURE FROM THE BIG LAKE AIRPORT AND HEADED TOWARD WILLOW'S AIRPORT. HE STATED "A STRANGE GUST OF WIND CAME UP BEHIND ME AND FLIPPED ME FORWARD AND DOWN TO THE LEFT." HE ADDED THAT "I HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED A WIND LIKE THAT BEFORE." HE STATED THAT THE AIRPLANE STALLED, HE RECOVERED VERY ABRUPTLY AND WITH POWER, AND THEN ENTERED A SECONDARY STALL FROM WHICH HE WAS NOT ABLE TO RECOVER. HE SUBSEQUENTLY IMPACTED THE TREES NEAR THE NORTH SHORE OF ROCKY LAKE. DURING THE IMPACT SEQUENCE, THE RIGHT WING SEPARATED FROM THE FUSELAGE, AND THE REMAINING PORTIONS OF THE AIRPLANE SLID OUT OF THE TREES AND INTO THE LAKE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC07LA079](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC07LA079), Aug 11, 2007: Aeronca 7AC (N82192), Big Lake, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed to avoid an inadvertent stall while maneuvering.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
