## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PRIVATE PILOT DEPARTED RNWY 26 @MGJ IN HIS EXPR'MNTL AMATEUR BUILT A/C. CLIMBING OUT AT PATTERN ALT. THE ENGINE EXPERIENCED PARTIAL PWR FOR 5 SEC., THEN FULL PWR FOR 5 SEC., THEN ZERO PWR. THE A/C CRASHED ON THE EXTENDED CENTERLINE OF RNWY 26. PILOT SUFFERED SERIOUS LEG INJURIES. INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT AIRMAN WAS OPERATING WITHOUT A MEDICAL WHICH HAD "SPECIAL ISSUANCE" CONSIDERATIONS FROM CAMI (REQ'D YEARLY PHYSICAL EXAM TO MAINTAIN 3RD CLASS). FURTHER, THE A/C HAD NOT BEEN FLOWN FOR A YEAR AND THERE WAS NO RECORD OF A "CONDITION INSPECTION" ON THE A/C NOR WAS THERE A RECORD OF A CURRENT "FLIGHT REVIEW" FOR THE PILOT. AIRMAN CITED SPORT PILOT RULES AND BASED HIS LICENSE/MEDICAL ON HIS DRIVER'S LICENSE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL07LA112](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL07LA112), Aug 12, 2007: Falcon Safety Craft Falcon XP (N223FS), Montgomery, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power during initial climb for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
