## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRMAN STATED THAT UPON LANDING OFF-AIRPORT THE TAILWHEEL SANK INTO A SOFT SPOT APPROXIMATELY 1 FOOT BELOW GRADE. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED MOVING FORWARD AND WHEN THE TAILWHEEL EXITED THE SOFT SPOT THE MAIN LANDING GEAR SLAMMED DOWN VERY HARD, TEARING OFF THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR, DAMAGING THE RIGHT WING AND THEN NOSING OVER, COMING TO REST UPSIDE DOWN. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC07CA087](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC07CA087), Aug 17, 2007: Maule M7 (N717E), Bettles, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's selection of an unsuitable landing site, which resulted in an encounter with soft terrain, and a nose over during the landing roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
