## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STATED THEY WERE DOING CONFINED AREA TRAINING, AND WHILE HOVERING, THE TAIL ROTOR STRUCK A SMALL TREE. THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO SHUTTER SO THE PILOT IMMEDIATELY LANDED IN THE SMALL FIELD AND SHUT DOWN THE ENGINES DUE TO THE VIBRATION. THE LANDING WAS FIRM ENOUGH TO SET OFF THE ELT (EMERGENCY LOCATOR TRANSMITTER), WHICH WAS SHUT OFF BY THE PILOTS. THE TAIL ROTOR BLADES WERE DAMAGED AND THE BOLTS ATTACHING THE 90 DEGREE GEARBOX WERE ALSO DAMAGED. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE CONFINED AREA WAS A SMALL MEADOW SURROUNDED BY TREES AND BUSHES. THE GRASS AND WEEDS WERE OVER 4 FEET TALL INSIDE THE MEADOW.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
