## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 08/24/2007, AT APPROXIMATELY 1300 AST, N8127Q A PIPER PA-32-300 AIRCRAFT HAD ITS THROTTLE CABLE BREAK WHILE ADJUSTING ENGINE POWER DURING DESCENT FOR LANDING AT THE JUNEAU, ALASKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. THE LAB FLYING SERVICE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED AS A 14 CFR PART 91 REPOSITIONING FLIGHT AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE THROTTLE CABLE BROKE AT A CRUISE POWER SETTING WHILE ADJUSTING POWER FOR THE DESCENT. AS HE APPROACHED THE AIRPORT FOR LANDING HE NOTIFIED THE JUNEAU AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER OF THE SITUATION AND WHEN LANDING WAS ASSURED THE PILOT CUT ENGINE POWER WITH THE MIXTURE CONTROL. THE PILOT EXECUTED A SUCCESSFUL DEAD STICK LANDING WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT ABOARD AND RECEIVED NO INJURIES. UPON INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT, THE THROTTLE CABLE WAS DISCOVERED BROKEN AT APPROXIMATELY THE MIDWAY POINT DOWN THE CABLE. IT APPEARED TO HAVE FAILED IN TINSEL AND EXHIBITED SHARP BROOM STRAW EFFECT. NO FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT WAS DISCOVERED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
