## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AUGUST 26, 2007 A PIPER CHEROKEE, PA-28-180, N15425 ATTEMPTED A MAXIMUM GROSS WEIGHT TAKE-OFF FROM RUNWAY 20, A WET 4000 FOOT GRASS RUNWAY, LOCATED IN HAGERSTOWN, INDIANA. THE FLIGHT WAS TO BE CONDUCTED UNDER VFR TO THE MOUNT COMFORT AIROPRT (MQJ) LOCATED IN INDIANAPOLIS INDIANA. PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS USING SOFT-FIELD TAKE-OFF TECHNIQUES AS THE RUNWAY WAS WET. USING 10 DEGREES OF FLAPS (POH RECOMMENDS 25 DEGREES) FULL AFT CONTROL INPUTS WERE USED WITH THE INTENTIONS OF ALLOWING THE ENTIRE AIRCRAFT TO BECOME AIRBORNE BEFORE RELEASING ANY PRESSURE ON THE YOKE. PILOT REPORTS THAT THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE AND REMAINED AT A HIGH ANGLE OF ATTACK, BUT HE WAS NOT GAINING ANY AIRSPEED. TWO THIRDS THE WAY DOWN THE RUNWAY THE PILOT DECIDED TO ABORT THE TAKE-OFF RUN. AIRCRAFT SLID ON THE WET GRASS, WENT THROUGH A FARM FENCE, SHEARED OFF THE NOSE GEAR AND FLIPPED OVER ON ITS BACK. ALL THREE OCCUPANTS WERE ABLE TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT THROUGH THE LEFT SIDE WINDOW. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. AIRMAN WAS COUNSELED ON AERONAUTICAL DECISION MAKING ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07CA278](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07CA278), Aug 26, 2007: Piper PA-28-180 (N15425), Hagerstown, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's use of an unsuitable runway for takeoff and delayed aborted takeoff. Factors were the wet grass and the fence the airplane impacted and subsequently nosed over.

## Other reports on N15425 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
