## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING A PART 91 FLIGHT FROM SALIENAS, CA, TO GRANTS PASS OR, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT WHILE CRUISING AT AN ALTITUDE OF 7,000 FEET HE OBSERVED THE AMP METER WAS INDICATING ZERO AND CONCLUDED HE HAD AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE. HE STATED HE SHUT DOWN ALL THE ELECTRICAL ITEMS AND ELECTED TO MAKE A LANDING AT THE NEAREST AIRPORT WHICH WAS DUNSMUIR MUNI-MOTT (1O6). HE STATED HE SPIRALED DOWN TO LAND BECAUSE HE FELT THE ENGINE MAY QUIT RUNNING. HIS APPROACH WAS HIGH AND HE LANDED LONG AT DUNSMUIR. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY INTO A FENCE. THE ONLY OCCUPANT WAS NOT INJURED. THE AIRCRAFT SUFFERED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA07CA257](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA07CA257), Aug 30, 2007: Cessna 182Q (N2001S), Dunsmuir, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudgment of distance/speed and his failure to attain the proper touchdown point during landing, which resulted in a runway overrun during the landing roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
