## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT AND ON SHORT FINAL TO RWY 21 THE CFI STATES A GUST OF WIND PICKED UP HIS TAIL WHICH CAUSED THE RT WING TO DIP AND THE AIRCRAFT TO DRIFT RT OF CENTERLINE. JUST AS HE WAS LEVELING THE AIRCRAFT HE SAW HE WAS TO THE RT OF CENTERLINE AND HEADED FOR SOME 40 OR 40 FOOT TALL TREES IN HIS CURRENT FLT PATH. THE NEXT THING HE KNEW THE RT WING STRUCK A TREE WHICH WAS NOT IN HIS FIELD OF VIEW. THE GLIDER IMMEDIATELY FLIPPED OVER AND LANDED ON A DIRT ROAD ON ITS BACK ABOUT 50' NORTH OR THE BEGINNING OF RWY 21.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA07LA250](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA07LA250), Aug 31, 2007: Schweizer SGS 2-33 (N5731S), Morgan, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain control of the glider while maneuvering on final approach to landing, which resulted in an collision with a tree. A factor was the wind gust.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
