## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) SEPT. 1, 2007, ON TAKEOFF ROLL, THE PILOT LOST CONTROL WHEN THE TAIL WHEEL CAME OFF THE RUNWAY DURING A CROSSWIND TAKEOFF. THE PILOT BELIEVES HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH AIRSPEED FOR PROPER CONTROL. THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED TO THE LEFT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THEN IT CAME BACK TOWARDS THE RUNWAY AND HIT THE EMBANKMENT AND FLIPPED, LEFT WING UNDER, BEFORE IMPACTING THE GROUND. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE THOUGHT MAYBE THE AILERON CONTROLS WERE NOT WORKING BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE STICK FELT. THE PILOT HAD HIS SON ONBOARD AND THERE WAS A VIDEO CAMERA TAPING AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND NO POST FIRE. ADDITIONAL FOLLOW-UP INSPECTION CONDUCTED BY THIS OFFICE DETAILS DOCUMENTED ON ATTACHED REPORT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW07CA190](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW07CA190), Sep 1, 2007: KitFox Series 5 (N915W), Kerrville, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to compensate for the existing wind conditions. A contributing factor was the prevailing crosswind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
