## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2007, AT APPROXIMATELY 1030 CDT, AN INSTRUCTOR PILOT AND A STUDENT WERE PERFORMING TAKE-OFFS AND FULL-STOP LANDINGS AT THE ABERNATHY MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (F83). WHILE PERFORMING A FULL-STOP LANDING, THE PILOT APPLIED THE BRAKES HEAVILY CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP OVER ON ITS BACK. THIS RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT OR THE STUDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW07CA195](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW07CA195), Sep 8, 2007: Cessna 140 (N72699), Lubbock, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control of the airplane while landing. A contributing factor was the flight instructor's delay in taking remedial action.

## Other reports on N72699 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19810329013001A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19810329013001A), Mar 29, 1981: Cessna 140 (N72699), Kilgore, TX, Substantial damage. Landed on top of a PA25, N6337Z, as both were leveling off for landing. N72699 was landing long, other short.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
