## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 09/20/07 AT 1230 MDT A CESSNA 182Q, N97996, CRASHED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND AT GLENWOOD SPRINGS, CO (GWS). THE AIRCRAFT PILOTED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WITH 2 PASSENGERS ON BOARD LANDED LONG ON RUNWAY 32 AND CONTINUED UNTIL IT RAN OFF THE END OF THE PAVEMENT, THROUGH A DIRT FIELD, A SMALL WIRE FENCE, AND THEN WENT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT FINALLY COMING TO REST IN THE STREET OF A RESIDENTIAL AREA. THE ESTIMATED DISTANCE ONCE OFF THE RWY WAS SOME 465 FEET. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED, 1 MINOR INJURY WAS REPORTED TO THE PILOT. THE PILOT REPORTED DEPARTING GLENWOOD FOR GUNNISON, CO AT NOON. AT APPROX 15 MINUTES LATER HE DECIDED TO RETURN TO (GWS) DUE TO TURBULENCE. ON APPROACH HE STATED THAT HE DID NOT CHECK THE WIND SOCK, BUT DID CHECK AWOS FOR WINDS IN THE AREA. ON FINAL AND NEAR TOUCHDOWN HE STATED THAT HE HEARD A WIND SHEAR WARNING. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED WITH A TAIL WIND, IT TOUCHED DOWN JUST PAST MID-POINT, CONTINUED THE LANDING AND WENT INTO A SKID AND EXITED THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT DID NOT TRY TO GO-AROUND. PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE COCKPIT AREA SHOWED ALL THE ENGINE CONTROLS WERE IN THEIR RESPECTIVE TAKE-OFF SETTINGS.
