## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE STUDENT PILOT WAS PREPARING FOR FIRST SOLO FLIGHT. DURING THE GROUND RUN-UP THE HELICOPTER ROTATED ON THE PAVEMENT. MARKS ON THE PAVEMENT INDICATED THAT THE HELICOPTER ROTATED TWO COMPLETE REVOLUTIONS BEFORE THE RIGHT SKID SHOE CAUGHT IN A CREVICE IN THE PAVEMENT, CAUSING A DYNAMIC ROLLOVER. THE MAIN ROTOR AND THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER MADE CONTACT WITH THE ASPHALT. THE PILOT WAS UNSURE OF HIS ACTIONS WHEN THE HELICOPTER BEGAN SPINNING. HE SAID HE THOUGHT, BUT WAS NOT SURE, THAT THE COLLECTIVE WAS FULL DOWN AND ENGINE AND ROTOR TURNING AT LESS THAN FULL OPERATING RPM.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC07CA236](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC07CA236), Sep 22, 2007: Robinson R44 II (N3184T), Nashville, TN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain control of the helicopter.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
