## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON OR ABOUT 15:10, SEPTEMBER 30, 2007 THE COMMERCIAL RATED PILOT AND A SAFETY PILOT, WHO HOLDS AN ATP RATING, DEPARTED (PVG) PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA IN ROUTE TO FKN VIRGINIA UNDER VFR. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, ALL OPERATIONS WERE NORMAL UNTIL THE AIRCRAFT WAS ON A VOR APPROACH TO RUNWAY 09. AT APPROXIMATELY 1000' MSL THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE OVER THE FINAL APPROACH FIX AT APPROXIMATELY 16:00 HRS. AT THAT TIME THE ATP RATED COPILOT TOOK OVER THE FLIGHT CONTROLS WHILE THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE 3 TIMES. THE COPILOT CRASH LANDED THE AIRCRAFT INTO A TREE APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE WEST OF THE AIRPORT IN A MARSHY AREA. THIS ACCIDENT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC07LA244](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC07LA244), Sep 30, 2007: Beech F33A (N52359), Franklin, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power during approach for undetermined reasons. Contributing to the accident was the unsuitable terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System.
