## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT STATED HE WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND IN A FIELD LANDING STRIP ON A RANCH THAT HE FREQUENTLY USED. HIS LANDING APPROACH WAS LOW, THEREFORE, THE MAIN LANDING GEAR STRUCK A FENCE, INCLUDING SOME FENCE POSTS. AFTER MAKING CONTACT WITH THE RANCH PERIMETER FENCE THE AIRCRAFT TRAVELED ANOTHER 25 TO 30 FEET AND CAME TO REST UPRIGHT ON THE LANDING GEAR. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND EXTREMELY HARD WHICH CAUSED EXTENSIVE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX08CA006](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX08CA006), Oct 7, 2007: Aviat A-1 (N9620Z), Arroyo Grande, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudged altitude and distance on the approach that led to an undershoot and inadequate obstacle clearance.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
