## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS DESCENDING UNDER VFR EAST OF THE TEHACHIPI MOUNTAINS WHEN HE ENCOUNTERED SEVERE TURBULENCE AT APPROXIMATELY 8000'. HE REPORTED STRIKING HIS HEAD ON THE CANOPY AND WAS SHAKEN UP BY THE INCIDENT. HE MAINTAINED CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE AND DIVERTED TO BAKERSFIELD, CA WHERE HE COMPLETED A SUCCESSFUL LANDING. A MECHANIC FAMILIAR WITH RV AIRCRAFT INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT AND FOUND NO DAMAGE. THE PILOT RECEIVED A PREFLIGHT WEATHER BRIEFING AND THERE WERE NO AIRMETS OR SIGMETS INDICATING TURBULENCE ALONG HIS ROUTE OF FLIGHT. DURING HIS FLIGHT, HE RECEIVED NO PIREPS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
