## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS DEMONSTRATING HIS AIRPLANE TO ANOTHER SPORTS PILOT. HE CAME IN FOR LANDING ON LAKE BERRYESSA AND POSSIBLY HIT SOMETHING IN THE WATER AS HE LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE. THE AIRPLANE CAME TO REST UPSIDE DOWN. HE IS SURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR WAS IN THE UP POSITION. THE PILOT HAD JUST RECEIVED HIS SINGLE ENGINE SEAPLANE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR ENDORSEMENT SIXTEEN DAYS BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. THERE IS A QUESTION AS TO THE ENDORSEMENT THAT HE RECEIVED FROM THE CERTIFICATED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX08CA019](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX08CA019), Oct 25, 2007: Ploof Progressive Aerodyne's Searey (N195LS), Lake Berryessa, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The airplane's encounter with a submerged object during landing in water, which resulted in the airplane nosing over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
