(-23) THE STUDENT PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS FLYING N77LU CONDUCTING TOUCH-AND-GO LANDINGS ON RUNWAY 12 AT THE BROOKINGS, SD AIRPORT. HE TOUCHED DOWN ON RUNWAY 12 AND WAS DISTRACTED BY ANOTHER AIRCRAFT PASSING OVERHEAD WHEN THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED OFF THE RUNWAY AND IMPACTED A SIGN. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AND THE PILOT ESCAPED WITHOUT INJURY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI08CA029](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI08CA029), Oct 29, 2007: Cessna 172R (N77LU), Brookings, SD, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to maintain directional control during takeoff roll. Contributing to the accident was the student pilot's lack of solo flight experience and the runway sign.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
