## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) BOTH N309PA & N923PA WERE IN THE RUNUP AREA, HOLDING SHORT AT THE END OF RUNWAY 74, PREPARING FOR TAKEOFF AT DVT. THE STUDENT PILOT OF N309PA WAS PREPARING FOR HIS FIRST SOLO FLIGHT AND WAS POSITIONED JUST TO THE LEFT AND SLIGHTLY AFT OF N923PA, WHICH WAS OCCUPIED BY A CFI AND HIS STUDENT. N923PA INFORMED DVT TOWER THAT HE WAS #1 AT C1, AT THE HOLD SHORT LINE. SINCE N309PA WAS IN THE RUNUP AREA BEHIND N923PA, ALSO AT C1, HE MISSED THE CALL FROM DVT TOWER CLEARING HIM FOR TAKEOFF. THEN DVT TOWER ASKED N309PA IF HE WAS AT C2 AND HE ANSWERED "YES." TOWER CLEARED N309PA FOR TAKEOFF. N309PA ACCELERATED AND TAXIED INTO N923PA. NONE OF THE 3 OCCUPANTS WERE INJURED, AND THERE WAS NO POST-EVENT FIRE. HOWEVER, THE OUTBOARD PORTION OF N309PA'S RIGHT WING MANAGED TO SLIDE ALONG THE UNDERSIDE OF N923PA'S LEFT WING AND INTO ITS PROPELLER, WHICH SEVERED APPROXIMATELY 1 FOOT OFF N309PA'S OUTBOARD PORTION OF THE RIGHT WING, INCLUDING THE SPAR AND WING TIP. THIS WAS THE PRIMARY/SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE OF ONLY ONE OF THE TWO AIRCRAFT INVOLVED. ALL OF THE OTHER DAMAGE WAS MINOR, CONSISTING OF SCRAPES AND SMALL DENTS/BENT CORNERS OF SHEET METAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
