## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON NOV. 01, 2007 AT APPROXIMATELY 1635 HOURS LOCAL TIME, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DEPARTED SHARPE FARMS AIRPORT FOR THE INITIAL TEST FLIGHT OF A NEWLY CERTIFICATED EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT. ACCORDING TO WITNESS STATEMENTS WITHIN MINUTES AFTER DEPARTURE, THE PILOT APPEARED TO BE ON BASE LEG JUST PRIOR TO THE CRASH WHEN THE AIRCRAFT'S LEFT WING DIPPED AND THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED NOSE DOWN INTO A MILO FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT WAS INVERTED ON IMPACT WITH LESS THAN 10 FEET OF TRAVEL AFTER GROUND IMPACT. A POST CRASH FIRE OCCURRED AFTER GROUND IMPACT. THE NOSE SECTION OF THE FUSELAGE BURNED BADLY. THE WINGS AND EMPENNAGE WERE DESTROYED BUT DID NOT BURN. A FLIGHT CONTROL CONTINUITY CHECK WAS PERFORMED AND APPEARED TO FUNCTION AS EXPECTED. THE ENGINE AND PROPELLER WERE EVALUATED ALSO AT THE SCENE WITH THE PROPELLER SHOWING SIGNS OF ROTATION AT THE TIME OF IMPACT. THE PILOT WAS THE ONLY PERSON ONBOARD THE AIRCRAFT AND WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD BY THE LEWIS COUNTY CORONER ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AT 1745 HOURS LOCAL TIME.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI08LA031](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI08LA031), Nov 1, 2007: WRB Associates Zodiac 601 XL (N634WB), La Belle, MO, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control while maneuvering. Contributing to the accident was the pilot's lack of recent flight experience and his total lack of experience in the accident…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
