## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER CONDUCTING A LOW-LEVEL (APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL (AGL)) INVERTED PASS DOWN THE CENTERLINE OF THE RUNWAY (RUNWAY 21) AT NORTHERN LIGHTS AIRPORT, VT (VT46), THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED INTO TREES ADJACENT TO THE DEPARTURE END. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED TO BE INVERTED AND TURNING TO THE WEST WHILE DESCENDING PRIOR TO IMPACTING THE TREES. THE TREES ARE ESTIMATED TO BE APPROXIMATELY 60 FEET IN HEIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED THE TOPS OF THE TREES WHILE INVERTED. ITS CRASH FLIGHT PATH WAS ORIENTED ON AN APPROXIMATE 240 DEGREES MAGNETIC COURSE. IT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS BEYOND THE FIRST IMPACT WITH THE TREES. THE PILOT WAS PERFORMING AN UNAUTHORIZED MANEUVER (INVERTED FLIGHT) AND LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AS HE ATTEMPTED TO RECOVER FROM THE MANEUVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA08CA011](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA08CA011), Nov 2, 2007: Smith Miniplane DSA-1 (N58MB), Alburgh, VT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain control of the airplane during aerobatic maneuvers which resulted in a loss of control and in-flight collision with trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
