## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING HOVERING AUTOROTATION INSTRUCTION, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GROUND HARD ON THE RIGHT SKID. THE HARD LANDING RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT SKIDS AND THE TAIL BOOM WAS BENT IN THE AREA WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE AIRCRAFT FRAME. THE ENTIRE TAIL BOOM WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED OR STRUCTURALLY REPAIRED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA08CA019](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA08CA019), Nov 3, 2007: Robinson R22 Beta (N3189Z), Parma, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper use of the flight controls while performing a hovering autorotation and the flight instructor's excessive remedial action which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
