## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING A ROUTINE PLEASURE FLIGHT, N46009 LOST LIFT AND CRASHED INTO A HEAVILY WOODED REMOTE AREA. THIS WAS OBSERVED BY HIKERS WHO NOTIFIED THE NY STATE POLICE. THE INDIVIDUALS WERE AIRLIFTED FOR TREATMENT BY HELICOPTER. STATEMENTS FROM THE TWO EXPERIENCED PILOTS GIVE NO INDICATION FOR THE LOSS OF LIFT, BUT FEEL THAT THEY APPARENTLY ENCOUNTERED A DOWNDRAFT. THE PILOTS ATTEMPTED TO MANEUVER AWAY FROM THE DOWNDRAFT, BUT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC08CA025](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC08CA025), Nov 4, 2007: Burkhart Grob G 103 Twin II (N46009), Windham, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: An inadvertent encounter with a wind gust while maneuvering.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
