## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL AT THE NAPA COUNTY AIRPORT, THE FRONT/NOSE BAGGAGE DOOR CAME OPEN. THE PILOT OF N3038P ABORTED THE TAKEOFF ROLL. THE AREA HAD RECENTLY EXPERIENCED HEAVY RAIN. DUE TO STANDING WATER AND CONTINUED LIGHT RAIN, THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED POOR BRAKING ACTION AND HYDROPLANING. THE AIRCRAFT SLID OFF THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY INTO A WATER FILLED DITCH. THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AND NO INJURY TO THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX08CA014](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX08CA014), Nov 11, 2007: Piper PA-34-200T (N3038P), Napa, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to latch the cargo door during preflight.

## Other reports on N3038P (1)

- [Incident 19870321031469I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19870321031469I), Mar 21, 1987: Piper PA34200T (N3038P), Albuquerque, NM, Minor damage. Gust of wind caused landing aircraft to veer off runway, right main gear collapsed. Landed downwind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
