As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT IN COMMAND WAS TEACHING HOVERING AUTOROTATION MANEUVERS WHEN THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GROUND VERY HARD CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TAIL ROTOR HOUSING. THE TAIL DID NOT STRIKE THE GROUND BUT SUFFERED A WHIP LASH EFFECT WHEN THE LANDING GEAR SKIDS HIT THE SURFACE WITH FORCE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA08CA037](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA08CA037), Nov 21, 2007: Bell 206A (N123SD), Twin Falls, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot misjudged the flare which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
