## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED ON TAKE-OFF FROM MONTAGUE ISLAND ABOUT 5 MILES NORTH EAST OF BEACH RIVER. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, HE LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND RAN OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY STRIKING TREES. THE BEACH HE WAS DEPARTING FROM USED TO BE PART OF THE MAIN COASTLINE OF THE ISLAND BEFORE THE 1964 EARTHQUAKE. IT IS NOW OVERGROWN AND ABOUT 600 FEET LONG. THE PILOT SAID HE GOES OUT EACH YEAR AND CLEARS SOME OF THE BRUSH FROM THE LANDING AREA. THE PILOT ADMITTED THAT HE HAD NOT FLOWN MUCH THIS YEAR, AND THAT IS THE REASON FOR THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)
