(-23) ON DECEMBER 10, 2007 N9048T, A 1960 CESSNA 182 RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AFTER CRASHING THROUGH THE FELTS FIELD, WASHINGTON AIRPORT CHAIN LINK PERIMETER FENCE. N9048T WAS CONFIGURED AS A PARACHUTE JUMP AIRPLANE WITH ONLY ONE SEAT AND A JUMP DOOR INSTALLED ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE AIRCRAFT HAD DEPARTED RUNWAY 21L WHEN IT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER, AND THE ENGINE WENT INTO AN IDLE CONDITION. THEN THE PILOT PERFORMED A 180 DEGREE TURN, DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND LANDED NORTHWEST OF THE AIRPORT CRASHING THROUGH THE PERIMETER FENCE ONTO AIRPORT PROPERTY. DURING THE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION A FUEL SAMPLE WAS OBTAINED FROM THE RIGHT WING TANK. THIS SAMPLE CONTAINED A LARGE AMOUNT OF NONMETALLIC SLUDGE. AT THE POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION PERFORMED BY MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL REVEALED SOME "FINE SEDIMENT" WAS FOUND IN THE FIREWALL MOUNTED FUEL STRAINER, AND FUEL TANK SUMPS. THE CARBURETOR INLET SCREEN WAS CLEAN, BUT THE FLOAT BOWL CONTAINED A SMALL AMOUNT OF "FINE SEDIMENT." THE SPARK PLUGS AND MAGNETO ELECTRICAL SYSTEM APPEARED TO BE FUNCTIONING PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. ALL THE PISTONS ARE STILL ATTACHED TO THE CRANKSHAFT WITH COMPRESSION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
