## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 12-21-07 AN RV7 PILOTED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS LANDING ON A GRASS FIELD AT HIS HOME BASE. AFTER TOUCHDOWN, THE ROLL OUT WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH THE NOSE WHEEL HELD OFF OF THE RUNWAY AND WHEN THE NOSE SETTLED, AS THE SPEED DECREASED, THE NOSE OF THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO PITCH FORWARD WHICH RESULTED IN THE AIRCRAFT BECOMING INVERTED. THE RUNWAY WAS EXAMINED, AFTER THE INCIDENT, AND THERE WAS NO CONTACT WITH HOLES OR OBJECTS PRIOR TO THE EVENT. THERE WAS SOME EVIDENCE OF SOME LOW SOFT GOPHER MOUNDS (APPROXIMATELY 2-3 INCHES IN HEIGHT) THAT APPEARED TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE TWO MAIN GEAR WHEELS PRIOR TO THE AIRCRAFT PITCHING OVER ON ITS NOSE, AND BECOMING INVERTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW08CA048](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW08CA048), Dec 21, 2007: Portman RV-7A (N131RV), ELmendorf, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the nose landing gear. A contributing factor was the mound/uneven runway surface.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
