## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THIS WAS A DUAL INSTRUCTION PART 61 TRAINING FLIGHT TO ADD A ROTORCRAFT RATING TO AN EXISTING PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATE. ON A PRACTICE HOVERING AUTOROTATION, WITH THE STUDENT FLYING AND THE INSTRUCTOR "FOLLOWING ALONG" ON THE CONTROLS, THE LEFT SKID HIT THE GROUND AND DUG INTO THE SOFT EARTH. THE AIRCRAFT PROCEEDED TO ROLL ONTO ITS LEFT SIDE, AT WHICH POINT THE MAIN ROTOR BLADES CONTACTED THE EARTH. THE INSTRUCTION WAS TAKING PLACE IN A GRASSY AREA BETWEEN THE RUNWAY AND THE TAXIWAY, WITHOUT NEARBY OBSTRUCTIONS. WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR, BEING CLEAR WITH THE WIND REPORTED TO BE LIGHT AND VARIABLE AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
