## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS ON SHORT FINAL TO RUNWAY 29 AT BAY BRIDGE AIRPORT WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT AS HE REDUCED POWER. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE APPEARED HIGH ON THE APPROACH AND CHOPPED THE THROTTLE SHARPLY. AT THIS TIME THE ENGINE STOPPED. HE TRIED TO RESTART BUT COULD NOT AND ELECTED TO LAND IN A FIELD ADJACENT TO THE HIGHWAY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED IN THE LANDING BUT THE PILOT RECEIVED NO INJURIES. (-23 AMENDMENT) ON 3/5/2008 AN INDEPTH EXAMINATION OF THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE WAS PERFORMED BY FAA, NTSB AND ROTAX PERSONNEL. OUR EXAMINATION REVEALED THAT THE CARBURETORS WERE NOT ADJUSTED PROPERLY ACCORDING TO THE ROTAX MAINTENANCE MANUAL. THE TROTTLE STOP AND MIXTURE SCREW ON THE LEFT CARBURETOR WERE NOT ADJUSTED I/A/W THE ROTAX MAINTENANCE MANUAL. THE RIGHT CARBURETOR WAS ALSO MIS-ADJUSTED BUT WAS MUCH CLOSER TO SPEC THAN THE LEFT. THE LEFT CARBURETOR THROTTLE VALVE SHOWED ALMOST NO OPENING ADJUSTED AS IT WAS. WE WERE ABLE TO JURY RIG THE ENGINE IN ORDER TO TRY TO START IT. IT DID START AND WE WERE ABLE TO RUN IT BY MANUALLY WORKING THE TROTTLE LINKAGES AT THE CARBURETOR. THE ENGINE MOUNT AND TROTTLE CABLES WERE DAMAGED AT IMPACT THEREBY REQUIRING US TO IMPROVISE. WE COULD NOT LET THE ENGINE WARM UP AND IDLE AS THERE WERE TOO MANY LEAKS IN FUEL, OIL AND COOLANT SYSTEM.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA08LA034](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA08LA034), Jan 3, 2008: Costruzioni Aeronautiche P2002 Sierra (N26WR), Stevensville, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to the failure of company maintenance personnel to comply with engine manufacturers requirements for carburetor adjustment during the 100-hour inspection.

## Other reports on N26WR (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.
