## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PRIOR TO THE FLIGHT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (INSTRUCTOR PILOT) REVIEWED ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (PILOT'S) DOCUMENTS (LICENSE, MEDICAL, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC), THE PLANE LOG BOOKS FOR CURRENT ANNUAL ETC., THE OPERATOR'S HAND BOOK, AND SOME PERFORMANCE DOCUMENTATION. THE TAKEOFF FROM RWY 27 AT KRNM WAS NORMAL AND THEY CLIMBED TO APPROXIMATELY 4500 OVER THE AIRPORT. THEY PERFORMED SEVERAL MANEUVERS FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES AND THEN ENTERED THE PATTERN FOR TOUCH AND GO'S. AS THEY CROSSED THE NUMBER ON THE FIRST APPROACH, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ APPLIED A LITTLE POWER IN THE FLARE CAUSING THE PLANE TO PITCH UP AND TO THE RIGHT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ASSISTED HIM AND RECOVERED WITHOUT A TOUCHDOWN. THEY SHOT ABOUT THREE OR FOUR MORE APPROACHES TRYING DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND POWER SETTINGS. THEY SET UP THE FINAL LANDING WITH AN EXTENDED FINAL AND THE APPROACH LOOKED NORMAL. JUST AS THEY WERE ABOUT TO TOUCH DOWN OR AS THEY TOUCHED DOWN, THE PLAN BALLOONED. THE PILOT APPLIED POWER AND THE PLANE PITCHED UP HARD. HE THEN BROUGHT THE NOSE DOWN AND PULLED THE POWER OFF. THE NOSE WHEEL STRUCK THE RUNWAY AND SHEARED THE FOUR BOLTS HOLDING IT TO THE FRONT STRUT. NEITHER OCCUPANT WAS INJURED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
