## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JANUARY 09, 2008 APPROX 0800 LOCAL NWA AIRBUS 319 N349NB HAD BOTH NR 2 ENGINE FAN COWLINGS DEPART THE AIRCRAT PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN IN DTW. ONE COWLING DEPARTED APPROXIMATELY ONE NM FROM THE APPROACH END TO THE RUNWAY (HAS NOT BEEN LOCATED AT THIS TIME) AND THE OTHER COWLING WAS FOUND ON THE RUNWAY. AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. NO EMERGENCY OR EVACUATION WAS INITIATED. NOTE THE COWLING THAT WAS FOUND ON THE RUNWAY WAS STRUCK BY A LANDING NWA 757 N528US WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE NR 2 TIRE ON THAT AIRCRAFT. PRELIMINARY DAMAGE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT DEPARTING COWLINGS CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE NR 2 ENGINE COMPONENTS, NR 2 NOSE COWLING, RT OTB THRUST REVERSER, L&R FAN COWLS, NR 2 PYLON, AND HORIZONTAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

Probable cause: The separation of the engine cowling which resulted from maintenance personnel failing to follow maintenance procedures in that they did not latch the engine cowling following the maintenance…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
