## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 1/12/2008 AT APPROXIMATELY 2135 CST, PIPER PA-44-180, N492ND, OWNED AND OPERATED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA AND PILOTED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND AT GRAND FORKS, ND. THE FLIGHT WAS CONDUCTED AS A NIGHT CROSS COUNTRY TRAINING FLIGHT. NEITHER THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR OR STUDENT SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE INSTRUCTOR WAS AT THE CONTROL AND FAILED TO EXTEND THE LANDING GEAR DURING THE SIMULATED SINGLE ENGINE APPROACH TO RUNWAY 17R. THE PROPELLERS STRUCK THE RUNWAY DURING THE FLARE AND THE PIC INCREASED BACK PRESSURE, ADDED POWER AND EXTENDED THE LANDING GEAR PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN. THE INCIDENT WENT UNREPORTED TO ATC. BOTH PROPELLERS WERE CURLED BACKWARD APPROXIMATELY 4 INCHES FROM THE TIP, THE STEP AND A BELLY ANTENNAE WERE SCRAPED AS WELL AS THE LEFT FLAP. ATC WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THE TIME OF OCCURANCE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
