## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N122AA WAS RETURNING TO SYRACUSE, NY ON A SPECIAL VFR FLIGHT PLAN. THE PILOT EXPERIENCED POOR VISIBILITY DUE TO BLOWING SNOW AND WINDS. THE PILOT SPIRALED DOWN, SET THE HELICOPTER DOWN IN A FIELD, LANDING HARD. THE SKIDS SEPARATED FROM THE FUSELAGE, THE MAIN ROTOR CUT THE TAIL BOOM OFF, AND THE FUSELAGE TURNED AND FLIPPED OVER (DYNAMIC ROLLOVER). THE FRONT OF THE HELICOPTER INCLUDING THE WINDSHIELD BROKE AWAY ALSO. THE HELICOPTER CAME TO REST ON ITS RIGHT SIDE FACING NORTHEAST.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC08CA083](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC08CA083), Jan 15, 2008: Robinson R44 II (N122AA), Fenner, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's delayed decision to perform a precautionary landing. Contributing to the accident was the reduced visibility in snow and the soft terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
