## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JANUARY 16, 2008 AT APPROXIMATELY 1430 CST, N42SM, A BEECH 58P, DURING THE PART 91 FLIGHT FROM TEXARKANA, TEXAS (TKX) TO PHOENIX, ARIZONA (PHX), STRUCK THE RIGHT WING ON LANDING WHILE ATTEMPTING A VISUAL APPROACH TO THE HEREFORD, TEXAS (HRX) AIRPORT FOR FUEL. ON LANDING A GUST OF WIND LIFTED THE LEFT WING CAUSING THE RIGHT WING AND RIGHT HAND PROPELLER TO CONTACT THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED APPROXIMATELY 30 DEGREES AND DEPARTED THE RUNWAY SURFACE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT ENGINE PROPELLER, LEFT STRUT, AND RIGHT OUTBOARD WING. THE AIRCRAFT TAXIED BACK TO PREPARED SURFACE TO PARKING UNDER ITS OWN POWER. AFTER TAXI-BACK, THE MECHANIC REPORTED THE LEFT STRUT LEAKING. THE PILOT AND SINGLE OCCUPANT DID NOT SUSTAIN INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW08CA072](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW08CA072), Jan 16, 2008: Beech 58P (N42SM), Hereford, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of control on landing. A factor was a gusting crosswind component.

## Other reports on N42SM (2)

- [Incident 19930926041999I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930926041999I), Sep 26, 1993: Beech 58P (N42SM), Williamsburg, VA, Minor damage. Pilot aborted takeoff roll due to low left engine manifold pressure. Retracted landing gear to aid in braking.
- [Incident 19780322010469I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19780322010469I), Mar 22, 1978: Beech 58P (N42SM), White Plains, NY, Minor damage. Pilot heard a snap after takeoff. Veered off runway on landing. Lower knee of scissors was broken.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
