## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AT 1335, ON 1/31/2008, DURING LANDING AT STAFFORD REGIONAL AIRPORT ON RUNWAY 33, A STUDENT PILOT LANDED HARD, LEFT OF CENTER LINE, AND THE AIRCRAFT SLID 225 FEET. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO TURN TO THE LEFT, ALMOST TURNING ABOUT 120 DEGREES FROM THE ORIGINAL INTENDED DIRECTION BEFORE STOPPING. THIS HAPPENED WHILE THIS STUDENT WAS ON HIS CHECK RIDE TO BECOME A CERTIFICATE LIGHT SPORT PILOT. THE DESIGNATE PILOT EXAMINER (DPE) WAS ON BOARD DURING THIS ACCIDENT AND ACCORDING TO THE STUDENT PILOT TOOK THE CONTROLS TWICE. THE FIRST TIME WAS WHEN THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN THE PATTERN AND A JET WAS INBOUND AND THE SECOND TIME JUST PRIOR TO IMPACT. THE RIGHT WING FORWARD AND REAR SPAR SHOWED DAMAGE FROM THE RIGHT GEAR ATTACH POINT IMPACT. THE LEFT WING HAD THE GEAR RIPPED OUT OF IT. THE NOSE GEAR WAS RIPPED LOOSE FROM ITS ATTACH POINT. NO ONE WAS HURT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA08CA050](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA08CA050), Jan 31, 2008: AirIndus Thorpedo T211 (N211US), Stafford, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student's improper landing flare and the flight examiner's improper supervision of the student.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
