## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON FEB 3, 2008, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS FLYING IN HIS HXB, JUST AIRCRAFT HIGHLANDER WHEN HE HEARD A DIFFERENT SOUND FROM THE ENGINE EXHAUST. HE ELECTED TO LAND THE AIRPLANE ON A BEACH AT LAKE HARTWELL, NEAR ANDERSON, SC. AFTER AN UNEVENTFUL LANDING, HE EXITED THE ACFT AND NOTICED SMOKE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. HE USED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER FROM THE AIRPLANE AND EXTINGUISHED A SMALL ELECTRICAL FIRE TO THE WIRES OF THE ENGINE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ OR HIS PASSENGER. AFTER A PHONE CONVERSATION WITH THE INSPECTOR IN CHARGE OF THIS INVESTIGATION, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ MOVED THE AIRPLANE TO THE FACTORY WHERE THIS AIRPLANE WAS BUILT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
