## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THIS STUDENT PILOT WAS SIGNED OFF AND DEPARTED ON THIS CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT WHEN THE EARLY MORNING WINDS WERE VERY LIGHT. THE WIND DIRECTION CHANGED AND THE WIND SPEED CONTINUED TO INCREASE. THE STUDENT PILOT WAS NOT ABLE TO LAND AT STEPHENVILLE (SEP) OR AT ENNIS (F41) TEXAS DUE TO THE STRONG CROSSWIND COMPONENT. WHEN THE STUDENT PILOT RETURNED TO ARLINGTON AIRPORT HE LANDED IN CROSSWINDS THAT EXCEEDED HIS TRAINING AND ABILITIES. THIS RESULTED IN A HARD LANDING THAT BROKE THE NOSE GEAR, ENGINE MOUNTS, BULKHEAD, FIREWALL, PROPELLER, AND SPINNER. THE STUDENT PILOT WAS COUNSELED ON THIS ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW08CA093](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW08CA093), Feb 8, 2008: Cessna 152 (N24768), Arlington, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper landing flare resulting in a hard landing. Contributing to the accident were the gusty surface winds and the student pilot's inadequate preflight planning.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
