## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY, BEGAN HIS CLIMB AND AT ABOUT 50 FEET THE AIRCRAFT LOST POWER. HE COMMENCED A LEFT HAND TURN BACK TO THE AIRPORT OVER A WOODED SECTION. AFTER INITIATING A 180 DEGREE TURN, HE STRUCK THE TOP OF A TREE WITH THE LEFT WING WHICH SPUN HIM AROUND AND INTO OTHER TREES, ULTIMATELY STRIKING A LARGE TREE WITH HIS INBOARD LEFT HAND WING ROOT AT GROUND LEVEL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC08LA107](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC08LA107), Feb 21, 2008: Christer Vans RV9-A (N159AS), Princeton, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to the pilot/owner's improper installation of a new ignition/fuel control system for the engine. Contributing was the unsuitable terrain for a forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
