## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 03/02/2008 AIRPLANE N8523 (T-28D) WAS ENROUTE FROM KONM TO KDUA PILOTED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS AT 3,000 FEET APPROXIMATELY 26.4 MILES FROM HIS DESTINATION AND NOTICED THE OIL PRESSURE START TO FLUCTUATE. AS HE STARTED HIS APPROACH FOR HIS EMERGENCY LANDING THE ENGINE SHUDDERED THREE OR FOUR TIMES AND THEN QUITE. HE WAS FORCED TO LAND AT AN ALTERNATE SITE OTHER THAN THE ONE HE HAD HOPED TO LAND ON. SHORTLY AFTER LANDING THE AIRCRAFT'S LEFT WHEEL ENTERED A DEEP SANDY HOLE, FOLLOWED BY THE NOSE WHEEL ENTERING ANOTHER SANDY HOLE. NEITHER GEAR MADE IT OUT OF THE HOLES IN ONE PIECE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW08CA142](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW08CA142), Mar 2, 2008: North American T-28D (N8523A), Sherman, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: Loss of engine power for undetermined reasons. A factor was the soft terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
