## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DEPARTED HOME AIRPORT, SPRUCE CREEK, (7FL6) APPROXIMATELY 10:00 AM WITH WINDS 5 GUSTING TO 10 KNOTS. RETURNED TO HOME BASE AFTER APPROX. 30 MINUTES FOR LANDING AND WAS TOLD THE WINDS WERE REPORTED TO BE 15 GUSTING TO 20 KNOTS, 110 TO 120 DEGREES. USE OF RUNWAY 05 RESULTED IN A CROSSWIND OF 60 TO 70 DEGREES AT 15 TO 20 KNOTS. WITH HALF FLAPS A WHEEL LANDING WAS EXECUTED ON AN AREA PROTECTED FROM THE WIND BY TREES. ON ROLL OUT, STILL ON THE MAINS, WHEN THE AIRCRAFT CLEARED THE TREES A GUST OF WIND CAUSED THE AIRPLANE TO TURN. RESULTING IN A GROUND LOOP OFF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC08CA126](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC08CA126), Mar 3, 2008: Morrison Vans RV-8 (N781RV), Port Orange, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The airplane's inadvertent encounter with a crosswind gust during the landing roll, which resulted in the pilot's loss of directional control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
