## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS HOVERING AIRCRAFT FROM DOLLY TO HARDSTAND TO DO TRACK AND BALANCE TO ROTOR SYSTEM. PILOT DOOR OPENED, PILOT TOOK RIGHT HAND OFF OF THE CYCLIC AND PUT HIS LEFT HAND ON CYCLIC. HE ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR WITH HIS RIGHT HAND AND RETRIEVE A CLIPBOARD THAT WAS FALLING OUT OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED BACK AND STRUCK THE TAIL STINGER HARD ENOUGH TO SNAP IT OFF PLUS CAUSE SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE VERTICAL FIN, TAILBOOM AND FUSELAGE OF THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA08CA072](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA08CA072), Mar 4, 2008: Eurocopter France AS350B1 (N152TA), Linden, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper preflight preparation and his failure to maintain control of the helicopter.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
