## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED HE WAS PERFORMING A SECOND LANDING ATTEMPT TO THE SHORT 2500 FOOT RUNWAY AT AGUA CALIENTE, CALIFORNIA. HE WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE LOCATION OF THE TOUCH DOWN ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT AND INITIATED A GO AROUND. DURING THE GO AROUND HE RETRACTED THE LANDING GEAR AND REESTABLISHED A TRAFFIC PATTERN. BECAUSE OF TERRAIN UNDER THE APPROACH END OF HIS CHOSEN RUNWAY HE STATED HE WAS GOING TO TRY A STEEP "CARRIER" TYPE APPROACH IN AN ATTEMPT TO MAKE A FIRM LANDING NEAREST THE APPROACH END. DURING THE PLANNING AND SET UP, HE STATED HE FORGOT TO EXTEND THE LANDING GEAR. WHEN HE PULLED THE THROTTLE TO IDLE THE AUTO GEAR SYSTEM BEGAN TO LOWER THE GEAR. HOWEVER HE TOUCHED DOWN BEFORE THE GEAR WAS FULLY DEPLOYED. THE TOUCHDOWN WAS HARD AND THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO VEER OFF THE RUNWAY. THE LEFT MAIN WHEEL REMAINED PARTIALLY DOWN. THE NOSE WHEEL AND RIGHT MAIN WHEEL RETRACTED. THE PROPELLER MADE CONTACT WITH THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY IN THE SAND. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT AND PASSENGER.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
