## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) A 1955 PIPER TRI-PACER (PA22-135) WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED WHEN AFTER LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT WENT OFF THE RUNWAY AND FLIPPED OVER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT AND PASSENGER. THE RUNWAY WAS LOCATED IN NICKERSON, KANSAS, TEN MILES NW OF HUTCHINSON KANSAS (HUT) AND PRIMARILY USED FOR AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS. THE RUNWAY CONDITIONS CONSIST OF DIRT, SAND, GRAVEL AND VERY SOFT ALONG THE EDGES AND OTHER LOCATIONS. THE WEATHER WAS GOOD, LIGHT WINDS, AND THE PILOT STATED THE APPROACH WAS NORMAL. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE AIRCRAFT'S LEFT MAIN TIRE SANK INTO A SOFT AREA AFTER TOUCHDOWN, PULLING THE AIRCRAFT TO THE LEFT EDGE OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN08CA063](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN08CA063), Mar 10, 2008: Piper PA-22 (N1424A), Nickerson, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll resulting in a departure from the runway environment. Contributing to the accident was the soft runway surface.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
