## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23)ON MARCH 18, 2008, AT APPROXIMATELY 1045 MDT, N3055N, A ROBINSON R-22 HELICOPTER, WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED IN A HARD LANDING AT THE LAS VEGAS, NEW MEXICO MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (LVS). THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED AS A TRAINING FLIGHT UNDER 14 CFR PART 91. THE CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR STATED THAT THE STUDENT PILOT WAS PERFORMING A 180 DEGREE AUTOROTATION AND THAT AT 300 TO 350 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL HE INSTRUCTED THE STUDENT TO ROLL ON POWER. BOTH PILOTS APPLIED FULL POWER BUT WERE UNABLE TO ARREST THE DESCENT BEFORE STRIKING THE GROUND. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS EXISTED AT THE TIME. A VFR FLIGHT PLAN WAS NOT FILED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN08LA066](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN08LA066), Mar 18, 2008: Robinson R22 Beta (N3055N), Las Vegas, NM, substantial damage. Probable cause: An inadvertent settling with power, and the instructor's failure to maintain control of the helicopter, resulting in a hard landing. Contributing to the accident was the downdraft.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
