## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WITNESS SAW AN AIRPLANE (NAVIGATION LIGHTS) FLY INTO TO THE GULF OF MEXICO. THE PILOT HAD MENTIONED TO THE DISPATCHER WHERE HE RENTED THE AIRCRAFT THAT HE WAS GOING TO GET NIGHT CURRENT. HE TOOK OFF ON THE NORTHWEST RUNWAY AND APPEARED TO BE IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN WHERE THE AIRPLANE CRASHED. INVESTIGATION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED THAT THE ENGINE AND AIRCRAFT WERE PERFORMING AS NORMAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC08FA148](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC08FA148), Mar 25, 2008: Piper PA 28-161 (N465TC), Venice, FL, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's inflight loss of control for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
