## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) FIRE ERUPTED IN THE LAVATORY INFLIGHT. FLIGHT ATTENDANTS USED HALON FIRE EXTINGUISHERS. FLIGHT DIVERTED INTO MSN. FBI AND ATF INVOLVED. ATF TOOK ASH SAMPLES FROM LAVATORY. ATF AND CARRIER CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE, A FINAL DETERMINATION HAS NOT BEEN MADE. THE LAVATORY EXTINGUISHER DID NOT DISCHARGE BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION OF THE FIRE IN THE TRASH CAN AND THE FIRE DID NOT GENERATE ENOUGH HEAT. THE SMOKE LEVEL WAS NOT INTENSE ENOUGH TO ACTIVATE THE LAV SMOKE ALARM. THE POI AND CHDO HAVE BEEN MAKE AWARE OF THIS SITUATION AND THEY ARE DOING FOLLOW UP ACTION.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
