## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MARCH 26, 2008, AT APPROXIMATELY 12:15 PM CENTRAL STANDARD TIME, AN AIR TRACTOR AT-301 AIRCRAFT, N4427S, PILOTED BY A COMMERCIAL PILOT, WAS ON FINAL APPROACH ABOUT 1 MILE SOUTH AND AT APPROXIMATELY 800 FEET AGL TO PLAINS, KS AIRPORT. THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING FOR UNKNOWN REASONS. THE PILOT COULD NOT MAKE IT TO THE AIRPORT AND ELECTED TO LAND IN A WHEAT FIELD TO THE SOUTHEAST OF THE AIRPORT. A SUCCESSFUL LANDING WAS ACCOMPLISHED IN THE WHEAT FIELD. DURING THE ROLLOUT AFTER LANDING THE PILOT OBSERVED THAT HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO STOP PRIOR TO STRIKING AN IRRIGATION PIVOT SYSTEM THAT WAS IN HIS PATH. THE PILOT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED ONTO ITS TOP CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW08CA086](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW08CA086), Mar 26, 2008: Air Tractor At-301 (N4427S), Plains, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power as a result of a blocked carburetor. A factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
